Individuals & Couples
Licensed Mental Health Counselor

I find that therapy is a collaborative and reflective process in which you and I develop an open, honest relationship in a therapeutic environment. I see my primary role as one who listens carefully and is fully engaged in order that I am able to help you to identify your goals, increase your level of awareness and develop clarity in areas that are relevant to your situation.

I have an educational background with 30 years of experience teaching in both private and public school, 4 years as a mental health professional in a correctional facility and 7 years in private practice.   A fundamental principle for me professionally, both in education and in behavioral health, is that I strive to come along beside a person exactly where they are in that particular moment in time.  With this principle in mind it has been my experience that a shared understanding and the courage to grow can become a powerful force, it can become the basis on which forward momentum is established. In this therapeutic environment I utilize techniques, modalities and treatment plans that are formulated and implemented based upon the existential needs of you as an individual.  I make a consistent effort to implement effective approaches that are tailored to the specifics of your unique situation.

For the past 3 years I have specialized in working with Veterans and issues related to depression, anxiety and PTSD.  It is a significant part of my current practice.  I am also interested in working with individuals and couples in areas related to communication, family of origin issues, codependency, abuse, trauma, family systems and forgiveness. I hold great respect for the sincerely held beliefs and values of individuals and have the perspective that there is a strong connection between our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual lives.  I have a deep personal faith and am open to your experiences and perspectives in this area should you choose to share this part of who you are, as well as negative and positive experiences in any area of your life.  I want your participation in therapy to address issues that are important to you in a way that facilitates growth and a greater sense of well-being.

Treatment modalities that I most frequently use are:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy

  • Family Systems Therapy/Systemic Therapy

  • Mindfulness Therapy

  • Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT)

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Relationship Counseling/Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)

  • Couples Counseling based upon John Gottman’s Research and Techniques
