Paula Best, LMHC
Therapist
Anxiety, Depression, Issues of attachment, Graduate school students
I am a licensed mental health therapist working with individuals and couples in a therapeutic relationship. The counseling relationship can be a helpful and safe place to work through your personal struggles. My job is to help you discover what might be the underlying causes of your emotional turmoil and how this discovery can then free you up to be more of who you are meant to be within yourself and in the relationships around you.
If you are experiencing hopelessness, pain, uncertainty, or are generally just feeling unfulfilled and/or dissatisfied with your life, you are not alone! Most people struggle and many seek help through therapy. I encourage you to take a courageous risk for the sake of yourself and your relationships. You are worth it! I hope to see you soon!
Specialties:
I have experience working with older adolescents, couples and adults. People I work with often seek therapy because of struggles in one or more of the following areas (but not limited to this list): relational problems, anxiety, depression, life transitions, lack of self-esteem, issues of abuse, family of origin, grief/loss and spiritual growth and formation.
Therapeutic Approach:
I respect and utilize therapeutic approaches from a variety of perspectives, primarily working from a relational style of therapy. I especially appreciate psychodynamic concepts and the idea of establishing a safe and secure place to help one discover and accept one’s greatest fears and deepest desires.
I believe that all problems are relational in nature. The counseling process is a relational alliance between therapist and client where issues, problems and struggles can be explored and pursued, creating opportunity for change.
Together, as counselor and client, we will spend time looking at the specific issues that brought you into therapy, as well as looking at the nature of your relationships with important people in your life. These relationships likely contribute to your deepest fears and greatest desires. We will look at how your way of relating enhances and interferes with yourself and the relationships around you, with the ultimate goal to restore hope and freedom in you and your relationships.
